movie review - The Cabin in the Woods

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-eight years and a million words

Toronto, 2014.11.17

This is a horror movie within a sci-fi movie about a world-wide effort by humanity to appease the old gods using a systematic approach to sacrifice. In this system, things are somewhat left to chance and there's the possibility that the victims can escape their fate. It's just unlikely.

But when the various would-be victims in different locations beat the odds the gods will demand their due, and that's when all hell breaks loose at the US location - with all of the various monsters and killers assembled for the sacrifice scenarios getting loose at once.

Recommended. It's absurd fun, if a bit strained in places as people work with an over-the-top script.

rand()m quote

If a person has ugly thoughts, it begins to show on the face. And when that person has ugly thoughts every day, every week, every year, the face gets uglier and uglier until you can hardly bear to look at it. A person who has good thoughts cannot ever be ugly. You can have a wonky nose and a crooked mouth and a double chin and stick-out teeth, but if you have good thoughts it will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely.
