there will always be cheddar in the mouse trap, baby

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-eight years and a million words

Toronto, 2014.05.08

I've been noticing a lot of anniversaries floating around these days. The worst year of my life was ten long years ago, a fading memory. It's been 25 years since I graduated high school, a now-meaningless waypoint. It's been very nearly twenty since I started working. I'm sometimes amazed at the career I've led and where it's taken me and at what cost. As Tom Waits likes to growl, "There will always be cheddar in the mouse trap, baby."

P.S. I've just passed the 2,900 mark in my journal. Still pulling in a steady drip feed of 6,500 UU's a month. I may be toiling in obscurity, but at least I'm not loafing in obscurity.

rand()m quote

I feel fortunate that I enjoyed the blandishments of modernity. I had hip replacement and root canal. I was able to travel on airplanes. I was able to take cheap food for granted. I went to the movies. I enjoyed rock 'n' roll. And now I'm ready to move on.
