so I guess we'll need a new mayor

twenty-eight years and a million words

Toronto, 2014.04.30

At last, we'll finally start to get over the Rob Ford era here in Toronto. I imagine that there will be lots of "we'll miss him" commentary in the sense of "we'll miss the entertainment" but for me I'm just glad that this thing is over and that maybe these clearly injured humans can start to heal. Ford's roughly my age and has kids. It's difficult enough to explain the guy's antics to my six year old, but while doing so I can only wonder at the impact all of this is having on the man's own kids.

My struggles look like nothing by comparison. The worst I endured today was finding myself crawling homeward tonight in a driving east wind, soaked in a steady rain.

rand()m quote

For a long time I was very bitter that the people who controlled the means of anybody ever hearing my songs were never gonna play them. They only favored music that I specifically and particularly hated, and I wanted them dead. Suddenly, there was another avenue. I started hearing my stuff coming out of bars and then it started to happen little by little -- a movie song here or a TV ad there.
