more bike repairs

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Toronto, 2014.04.08

Last year I had a new set of handlebars put on my bike, they're "city bike" style, swept back like a pigeon's wings. When I had that done, the cycle shop's mechanic put too short a cable on the rear gear shifter. This was okay, but after a long winter with plenty of cold and precipitation, it had gotten worse. I found the thing shifting at odd times, and I would lose my footing on occasion. For instance, when banging through this year's bumper crop of pot-holes.

All in all, the $16 was easy enough to stomach.

One thing I'm trying to accomplish with this relaxed bike geometry is to keep my speed down and be easy on my aging back. Results are mixed, I tend to want to pass the fair-weather cyclists and get on with it.
