CIA no. 3 is the hardest

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-eight years and a million words

Toronto, 2013.07.27

I take back what I said about CIA #2 being difficult. For an IT fellow and dabbler in entrepreneurship, CIA #3, with its heavy emphasis on accounting, economics, and finance, is vastly harder. In fact today I managed to completely burn out early on a practice quiz, getting only 1 out of six 6 right before pulling the plug in a funk.

Then I turned to some audit reading that happened to be about financial reporting shenanigans that are now common practice. And I was heartened to realize that I understood the article, and that just 3-4 months ago I probably wouldn't have. So, it may be a ridiculous way to cram half an MBA's worth of material into a year, but I seem to be picking up a lot of stuff.

Also heartening; I spent half the day sleeping or dozing while tending to The Girl, and felt much, much better afterward. In the morning I completed the quiz and wound up getting 18 out of 30. Still nowhere near good enough, but a long way from 1 out of 6. Subtracting my first exhausted flub, it was actually 17 out of 24, or 71%. And given that I'd cut out the three IT chapters that will be on the quiz because I was averaging 87% on those and effectively wasting my time, I can blend my results and hopefully be within striking distance of a passing grade. 71% x 0.7 + 87% x 0.3 = 76%, and I need an 80% to pass.
