depressingly good photography

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-eight years and a million words

Toronto, 2013.06.09

Today we went to the ROM to see a photography exhibit. The photog is Sebastião Salgado, his work covers everything from isolated tribes in the Amazon to vast penguin colonies in the Antarctic. It was so good that I found it a bit daunting. Why isn't there a single photo I could hang in a museum? I've been at it (OK, maybe "trying to keep up the hobby") for more than twenty years, and I've certainly read enough on the subject. I even (accidentally) had the better part of a year to devote to the work.

Ah well, supporting the family comes first.

rand()m quote

If a person has ugly thoughts, it begins to show on the face. And when that person has ugly thoughts every day, every week, every year, the face gets uglier and uglier until you can hardly bear to look at it. A person who has good thoughts cannot ever be ugly. You can have a wonky nose and a crooked mouth and a double chin and stick-out teeth, but if you have good thoughts it will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely.
