Lego fails us again

After our visit to Legoland, Ken was very keen on Lego and spent quite a bit of time building models from the small kit we bought him at the site.
I reminded him that we had software that would allow us to design our own kits, and we set about designinig one. It was a house. But it turns out that Lego now no longer offers downloads of the kits you design.
What, I wonder, is the point of the modelling software they provide! As someone who's ordered self-designed kits in the past, I'm pretty surprised.
