cycling with an old chair
the journal of Michael Werneburg
twenty-seven years and one million words
Today I cycled several blocks with a 40-year-old chair on the back of my bike.
Yes, I'm one of "those" people. The chair in question is one that's been in my life all the way, probably the only possession I've got for which I can make that claim. It needed some repairs, so I took it to "Broken Leg Furniture Repair" at Woodbine & Gerrard, and had it all patched up. The fellow seems to have done good work and it cost me $90 with taxes in. Or about $2.50 a year.
In truth I walked the bike most of the way but for the last bit (on quiet back roads) decided to slowly inch along, standing on the pedals and holding the chair as it rested bottom-up on my rear rack. 'Twas fun.
