pulled pork - it must be Summertime

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-eight years and a million words

Toronto, 2012.06.03

Well it was only about 20ºC, certainly not summer; but we had summertime food - pulled pork, hot dogs, and beef-on-a-bun.

We were at a temporary outdoor art gallery, where I went around being depressed by the people who are making a go of their creative urges. The crowd was being served by a hot dog bus and a Caribbean-style fry place. But here in Toronto, the hot dog bus serves spring rolls and the Caribbean one serves hotdogs.

We met a photographer who'd traveled to Turkey and Morocco and other places she described as "cheap to visit". She encouraged us to try traveling with the children but I had to counter-arguments: a) the children and b) no money, my usual argument to everything these days.

rand()m quote

Selfish leaders increase risk by placing themselves first. It's a fundamental mistake to assume that what is good for us personally is mutually exclusive to what is good for everyone. That kind of zero-sum game is for cowards, and in the end, we all pay the price for this type of latent, toxic leadership.
