catching a streetcar

I've been meaning to record a strange event from about two weeks ago: I caught a streetcar by catching up to it on foot.

It wasn't a minor stroll, either. Google maps tells me that it was 1.3 kilometers. How is it possible that I can move more quickly than a streetcar can cross the city centre... Scratch that, I shouldn't be surprised.
