movie review - Cowboys & Aliens

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Toronto, 2011.12.12

This is, as the title suggests, a movie in which aliens trade gunfire with cowboys of the late 19th Century. It's the rule of cool for this film, so suspend your disbelief all the way and dig history's most famous space cowboy team up with James Bond in a series of gritty scenes that ultimately lead to a squabble over gold. Yup; gold. Now, this movie comes from Jon Favreau, so you know that tone and characters and emotional weight are up for grabs in the quest for glory. It's sacrifice after sacrifice in the one until everyone's either exhausted or dead.

Not recommended. In that I can't recommend it for any reason. If you're stuck with this and say a Rob Schneider movie, go for it.
