30 minute no-show? gotta be the TTC
the journal of Michael Werneburg
twenty-seven years and one million words
It was raining pretty steadily this morning, so I decided to take the streetcar to work; stupid move.
After an astounding thirty minute wait in the steady rain, I gave up and walked to the bus station. Standing around with a dozen other bewildered refugees, I took the long way: up to the subway, across to the other subway line, then south and finally walking for ten minutes. I hate taking that route so much that I will do things like wait in the rain for thirty minutes to avoid it. But on the plus side I learned that taking this hare-brained route through the city actually saved me ten minutes over the streetcar option. It's still 25% longer than using my bike.
The ironic thing is that 25 years ago, and again 15 years ago, there was a plan in the works to add a subway to our part of town. Just on Thursday, the Toronto Star had an article about the issue, including this map:
But no. As a city, we've decided to do nothing. For decades.
I want to move out of the Beaches. I just can't rely on the transit!
