so this is Montreal...

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Montreal, 2011.08.06

We've only been in Montreal for a few hours but it's already struck us as pretty cool; but then attending a lively wedding reception helps.

My cousin Jeff and his (now) wife Daphne held a ceremony at the church of her family and the Haitian community in Montreal to which she belongs. The food was excellent. My cousin's a lucky dude.

I like about Montreal that the people seem quite a bit less uptight and unhappy than they do in Toronto. People on the street seem more ready to interact, and there's just more going on. Which is funny since it only has 2/3 of Toronto's population. The people here dress with more style than they do in Toronto, too, but then they could hardly do the opposite.

Tomorrow we're planning on diving into full tourist mode and having a wander through the old city.

rand()m quote

I feel fortunate that I enjoyed the blandishments of modernity. I had hip replacement and root canal. I was able to travel on airplanes. I was able to take cheap food for granted. I went to the movies. I enjoyed rock 'n' roll. And now I'm ready to move on.
