six hour cycle trip - to Pickering!

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Toronto, 2011.07.17

Today I set off at nine o'clock with the vague notion of heading east. All went well until I realized I was at the Pickering NPP.

The problem is not that it's a nuclear power plant, but that it's actually a bit far from where I live, certainly further than I'd intended. I turned around and headed for home wondering how long the return journey might take. A few kilometers in, what had been a steady headwind became quite a bit stronger, and the going started getting pretty rough. I probably turned around at around one. I was home by three, and asleep within half an hour.

Plugging my route into Google Maps tonight, I see that I cycled 67 kilometers. 11kph including stops, and these were many (especially on the way back). Hadn't quite meant to be gone so long, but it was fun.

P.S. Dear city of Ajax - thank you so much for the pedestrian/cycle bridge at the mouth of the Rouge River, estuary, but you need another one at the north end!

rand()m quote

Some people talk about living every day like it might be their last. Maybe that's good advice. Carpe diem and all that. But perhaps it's better to try to live every day like it might be everyone's last. If there are people in your life who are important to you, let them know...
