first day of cycling

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

We took Kenny to Woodbine park to ride his new bike today. He loved it, though as usual he started with a slow, deliberate pace.

It's a pedal-less "balance bike", a very well-built model with a spot for the lad to rest his feet should he try any rolling/gliding.

He didn't do any real gliding tonight, but then again he didn't do any falling while rolling, either. His grasp of balance is quite good. In fact, I think that balancing a bike must be a natural thing for us humans, because he displayed almost no hesitancy about turning corners and whatnot. I'm so glad that there are options to tricycles!

The weather was just perfect this evening, and we had a fine outing including a break to play in the sandbox at the playground. Yes, it all went perfectly, until... until I killed a sparrow.
