what's happening in Fukushima?

I was just passed a new (to me) article on Fukushima. This quote pretty much tells it all:
TEPCO announced that the accident probably released more radioactive material into the environment than Chernobyl, making it the worst nuclear accident on record.
So .. what's going on? Why do we keep reading that it was much smaller than Chernobyl, and then read stuff like this? For that matter, when the hell is this situation going to stabilize??
