Springtime lunch
the journal of Michael Werneburg
twenty-seven years and one million words
I had lunch outdoors today. No big deal in a normal Toronto Spring, but this was, as late as it is, the first time that I can recall.
The weather has been just ridiculous. Again today we woke to fairly thick fog that only seemed to deepen as the morning wore on. Finally at around 12:30 it started to burn off, and as I'd just emerged from a take-out restaurant I doubled back and got myself a fork so that I could eat on a rickety bench and watch the people on Spadina Avenue.
With the good, though, comes the bad. All of the rain has given rise to a bumper crop of mosquitoes. Our back yard today was so thick with the things that I had to hold my breath at times. Dragging my mountainbike while holding my breath and thrashing at my face .. what a way to start the day.
