leaving facebook

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Toronto, 2011.04.27

Facebook went nuts today, taking a bunch of old things from my website and spamming all of my connections with that.

Thankfully, someone alerted me to it on the same day this time, and didn't wait until a month had gone by like they did last time. Looking into it, I decided that it was the fault of the RSS widget in Facebook. I have other tools like "Feed my Inbox" hooked up to the RSS feed on my site, and it had no such problem today. It's just another random bit of nuisance from Facebook, it seems.

And that's one too many for me. I can't stand the cumbersome and ad-riddled site itself, and never use it unless someone send me a link. Also, I detest all of the increasingly abrasive ways that Facebook is used to push products and views (e.g. fake users who show up to hype something).

I'm spending too much time on the Internet as it is. So I'm shutting down for now.
