the cat egg

Today we took Kenny to the beach and then along the length of the boardwalk to its western end.
Our ultimate goal was a visit to the bank, sad to say, but along the way we had a good opportunity to make use of the sun and semi-warmth that the day afforded. Kenny found what he thought looked like a dinosaur egg, but when I had that egg spawning multiple hatchlings that crawled after him calling, "Papa!" he decided he didn't like that game anymore. So the dinosaur egg became a cat egg.
How to explain the difference between mammalian and reptilian reproductive cyles to a three year old?
