tobogganing is fun
the journal of Michael Werneburg
twenty-seven years and one million words
Today we took Kenny tobogganing for the first time.
We got all three of us outfitted with snowpants (needless to say, Mari's first ever and the first for me since who knows when) and long underwear and headed out under overcast and light snow. We went to Ball's Falls, where I remembered a hill from an early childhood visit of my own thirty-fivish years ago. Barreling down the hill, we managed to avoid spills and went back up time and again. It's such a simple pleasure, and it takes little more than a $40 wooden sled and a tight grip on your child.
There was only one problem with the whole thing. Kenny hated it. He dislikes the speed and distance of a full hill's run, and he strongly dislikes the snow spraying up in his face. In fact, after his second run he refused to do it again. Mari and I wound up taking turns!
