then I did something goofy

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Oakville, 2011.01.25

The train arrived on time this morning, but the doors refused to open. We stood there and waited for a moment, growing impatient.

Then I did something goofy. Saying, "Oh!" I reached out and pressed the middle of a palm-sized round white sticker on the side of the train. "Ding, dong," I said. Like we'd forgotten to announce ourselves.

The door failed to open. The people waiting near me, all dressed in their conservative greys, looked at their shoes uncomfortably. We waited some more.

Been hearing from a cast of parties back in Tokyo over the past week, mostly asking why all the silence from me. So much to do. What I need is a tool for reminding me for getting in touch with people.

The fishermen know that the sea is dangerous and the storm terrible, but they have never found these dangers sufficient reason for remaining ashore.
