job search update

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

St. Catharines, 2010.11.13

One job lead is dead, and one may lead to an offer on Monday.

The job I didn't get was the one that potentially would pay the most but was also the one with the most travel, by far. I'm not too upset at the loss of the lead, and I learned a few important things along the way.

As for the rest of my leads, things are going surprisingly well. I had great interviews at two different companies yesterday, really ending the week on a high note after a bit of distracting health news at the beginning of the week. Then I got back to Niagara (through a thick fog that had settled in) and saw a very encouraging note saying that things were "heating up" and could I come in on Monday to meet the boss?

So, hooray.

The odd health news: I've got yet another small abscess on the go. In addition to the one on my arm in August and a second, smaller one on my hip in October, I've now got a third, a very small one but one that's certainly caused some angst because I'm on the road and far from the folks who took care of the first two. I am quite pleased that I got travel health insurance before coming. It looks like I caught this one early enough--and that the antibiotics were effective enough--that I won't need surgery this time.

A leader is best when people barely know he exists, when his work is done, his aim fulfilled, they will say: we did it ourselves.
