job search progress

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Toronto, 2010.11.06

So far, so good. I've now interviewed with four firms and have been asked to come back for another interview by all four.

None of these leads involves a headhunter, I've noticed. It's all personal referrals. It's nice to find a receptive market again after so long in Tokyo with absolutely no interest in my skills, attitude, energy, and inability in the native language.

It's actually a situtation I don't see changing anytime soon in Japan. The numbers of non-Japanese speakers have plummeted to the point that there just aren't enough habitats where non-Japanese speakers can function. And so the cycle will continue, I think.

The way you write science fiction is: you sit down at your writing machine and you open your mind to the first thought that comes through. My first thought was always a cigarette.
