Mari's birthday

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Tokyo, 2010.08.30

This weekend we celebrated Mari's birthday. I had neither card nor present, but I did have flowers.

I didn't have a card or present because I'd made her a photo book and I figured that a book full of reminiscences from our first years was good for a card as well as a gift.

The book covers early days in Autumn of 2005 and ranges up to Kenny's birth in January of 2008. One hundred pages of us. Probably not something that too many other people would ever want to look at, really.

I ordered the book back in July from blurb.com, but it simply didn't show up on time. Naturally, it arrived today. That's when close is not close enough, blurb. Was five weeks really not enough lead time??

Funny thing is, she turned down chocolates. I hope I can come to love my new pod people replacement wife as much as I did the original.

rand()m quote

If a person has ugly thoughts, it begins to show on the face. And when that person has ugly thoughts every day, every week, every year, the face gets uglier and uglier until you can hardly bear to look at it. A person who has good thoughts cannot ever be ugly. You can have a wonky nose and a crooked mouth and a double chin and stick-out teeth, but if you have good thoughts it will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely.
