movie review - Kung Fu Panda
the journal of Michael Werneburg
twenty-seven years and one million words
I watched this with The Boy, who seemed to have fun despite being only 2 1/2. It's about a Panda being raised in the city by a ramen-slinging Goose. The Panda's heroes are the nations greatest warriors, a team of martial artists that protect the kingdom. He longs to join that world, but the reality is he's gotta serve noodles.
But then he's told to take the delivery cart to the high place where the next warrior will be selected. Long and wacky story, but it's him! The panda! He was destined to be the next warrior!! Destiny, man, you have to trust the ancient turtle.
Then a Big Bad threatens the nation and he joins the rest of the warriors in defending their land despite his ineptitude. Will he survive? Can he make a difference? Will he find acceptance? Will they make many more of these?
I enjoyed the humor and energy. I feel the role was played for the actor that performs the role, it's just such a good fit. The animation hits a great combo of fast-paced and responsive - the motions and the facial expressions really work.
Strongly recommended.
