new tracks

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-eight years and a million words

Tokyo, 2010.07.23

The new track pieces that I picked up have revolutionized our train layouts.

Who'd have thought that a male-to-male or female-to-female adapter could be so effective. But they've enabled so many new possibilities. Take, for example, this simple loop.

a simple rial loop

This is impossible without the male-to-male connector. Note, also, the female-to-female connector that joins the loop to the main line—freedom from abandoning your plans because the parts don't fit!

The improved versatility of the system really makes me wonder why Brio didn't ship these adaptors with the set we bought!

rand()m quote

It has always seemed strange to me...The things we admire in men, kindness and generosity, openness, honesty, understanding and feeling, are the concomitants of failure in our system. And those traits we detest, sharpness, greed, acquisitiveness, meanness, egotism and self-interest, are the traits of success. And while men admire the quality of the first they love the produce of the second.

—John Steinbeck, Cannery Row
