Edonism

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Tokyo, 2010.07.16

Last night I went to the premiere screening of the movie Edonism.

This is a tale of a foreigner living in Tokyo, a city he loves. But as time goes on he finds his grip starting to slide. He loses his job, his wife walks out .. and then he begins to start having spells. And the spells seem to coincide with earthquakes.

Starting with the slow grind of the man's descent, the film quickly changes pace as it changes direction. What seems to be a psychological drama is neatly turned on its ear as our man finds himself pursued by a bewildering cast of villains and would-be saviors.

Three good things that happened today:

1. Got to see an indie sci-fi film made by some friends

2. Met some interesting people

3. Now I know to watch out of the fabled catfish that causes the city's earthquakes
