petition for change in the Kimberley Process

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Tokyo, 2010.07.14

I've come across a petition for change in the Kimberley Process. The "KP" is the body that's *supposed to* monitor diamond ethics.

Turns out they're not doing such a good job, though. From the petition:

Over the past few months, shocking events have occurred that demonstrate the flaws in the international system to keep conflict diamonds off the market. We are writing to share some news you may not have heard, and to ask that you take a moment to help put a stop to outrageous human rights abuses that have taken place in Zimbabwe.

So one or two issues at the moment. You can find the petition at the website of Brilliant Earth, an online diamond jewelry retailer like Caritas.
