an eyesore falls

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Tokyo, 2010.06.18

They're tearing down an eyesore in my neighbourhood. I don't know how long it's stood, but it's finally done.

To tell you the truth, I don't even know what purpose the building served when it stood. It had an institutional look to it, but it has always stood empty the entire time I've lived here—some 2½ years.

goodbye, eyesore
goodbye, eyesore

Knowing Tokyo's work crews, I expect the bulk of the building to be gone by Wednesday.
