movie review - Star Trek

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-eight years and a million words

Tokyo, 2010.05.07

They've "rebooted" Star Trek. I have to say, the cast and the craft are very strong with this. I didn't find the story particularly compelling, focusing on a rogue operator of a mining space-shop using the craft's technology to kill planets because reasons. I wasn't sure that they really needed to up the stakes through such antics as wiping out Vulcan. But, I'm glad that they at least stuck to it, and didn't "find a way to reverse it" involving yet another Star Trek time travel escapade. On the whole, it's an unremarkable bit of movie-making and while certainly better than the first Star Wars prequel.

Not recommended.

Capitalist production, therefore, only develops the techniques and the degree of combination of the social process of production by simultaneously undermining the original sources of all wealth – the soil and the worker.
