too many two year olds

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Tokyo, 2010.03.27

We went to hanami today. There were way too many two year olds.

The group of families has come together as a result of the "Jidou center" city program for new mothers that teaches parenting skills and trains kids to behave. With that sort of background, it's natural that all of the families would have kids of the same age. In this case there were eleven two year olds!

One odd thing that I quickly noticed was that of the eleven kids there was only one girl. The rest were all a bunch of rambling, yowling, squabbling boys. I told the mother of the lone girl that her daughter was lucky—so many potential boyfriends!
