new year, more cycle glitches
the journal of Michael Werneburg
twenty-seven years and one million words
Recently I said to myself, "I haven't had a flat tire on my bike, recently." Today I paid for that.
Maybe it was the 30+ kilometres we rode on the weekend. Maybe it was the shortcut through the Tsukiji fish market. Maybe it was the gravel all over the roads in O-daiba. But this morning when I got downstairs to take Kenny to the day care, I found that my rear tire was flat.
That meant a scramble back up to the apartment to change out of helmets and into warm headwear, and to grab the new stroller. Despite my efforts to be out of the apartment early, I still wound up dropping Kenny off at nearly 09:00.
Worse still, when I was filling the replacement, the pin in the tire's valve came undone while I was removing the pump's fitting. All the air vented in a screaming second. Time to restart the whole process.
