Blake's arriving

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Tokyo, 2009.11.02

Tomorrow morning I'll be meeting with an old colleague who's coming to town. To do a bit of a tour.

Nothing special, just a jaunt to Shinjuku to go up the metro tower and see the sites. I'll make sure he gets some guide materials there as well. I don't mind showing people around the city, it's a great way to see places you'd typically not visit in any given year.

Blake's now a journalist, but I knew him when we were both IT monkeys. It's a curious thing, but this is the second time I've met with a colleague from the same small start-up in Australia where I worked for six months some nine years ago and more. He's followed the news in Brussels, Rome and Sudan. You can read his work in the "Recommended Content" link below.

rand()m quote

The man who lies to himself and listens to his own lie comes to such a pass that he cannot distinguish the truth within him, or around him, and so loses all respect for himself and for others. And having no respect he ceases to love, and in order to occupy and distract himself without love he gives way to passions and coarse pleasures, and sinks to bestiality in his vices, all from continual lying to other men and to himself.

—Fyodor Dostoevsky, The Brothers Karamazov
