banking 'round the world

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Tokyo, 2009.07.27

I've been using my mother's address as a "Canadian mail stop" for some reason. She's now preparing to move again, and I've started to get my address changed with my few points of contact back in "the old country".

So tonight I called the bank. I do so love it when they put me on hold! Happily, more of the North American 1-800/1-888 are now free through Skype, so it was only a matter of trying to remember that I was actually on the phone while the fellow wrangled my alien address into their system (I wonder if he filed "Shinagawa-ku" under city, province or "address line 2").

After that was done, I asked about shutting down a line of credit I haven't used in over three years. He told me that it was "dormant", and that I'd have to return to Canada to have it woken up so that I could shut it down. Banks!
