movie review - Stardust

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-eight years and a million words

Tokyo, 2009.06.18

This is a good fantasy movie about a star that falls to Earth in the form of a young woman. She's not too happy at this turn of events and understandably reacts poorly when a human shows up and takes her prisoner. This in-over-his-head captor is not alone in seeking the star, as she has properties much desired by parties such as three wicked sister witches and competing princes vying for a kingdom's crown. The story's clever and original, the cast is superb and their acting is as expected. The plot is quite strong for something of this nature, and actually means something for once.

Recommended.

rand()m quote

Society is indeed a contract... [the state] is a partnership in all science; a partnership in all art; a partnership in every virtue, and in all perfection. As the ends of such a partnership cannot be obtained in many generations, it becomes a partnership not only between those who are living, but between those who are living, those who are dead, and those who are to be born.

—Edmund Burke
