mikoshi

twenty-seven years and one million words

Today we went out to join the neighbourhood celebration that's centred around Shinagawa shrine (which is close to our home). I took a small clip of footage to record the back-and-forth, swaying pace of the progress the carriers make with the mikoshi (movable shrine) as they carry it through the streets.
Watching them carry the thing up four stories of stairs in one long charge is something to see! We did it last year, and it proved far too volatile a place for a family with a baby. If anything, this year's celebration sounded twice as exuberant.
