Welcome to winter

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Nichinan, Miyazaki, 2008.12.21

Well it's winter again. My 38th on God's green Earth, and my son's second. I've always liked winter, and I have to say that Tokyo's Winters are just about right for me. Cool (hovering around 5 degrees), brief (only two-three months long) and for the most part sunny. A welcome change of pace from the Winters I lived through in Canada, of course (especially Vancouver's, just too gloomy). And even preferable I think to the extended springtime of Sydney which if anything was like an air conditioned hotel lobby -- a bit too perfect. Winter should have some teeth, after all.

In dwelling, be close to the land. In meditation, delve deep into the heart. In dealing with others, be gentle and kind. In speech, be true. In work, be competent. In action, be careful of your timing.
