movie review - Hancock

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Toronto, 2008.12.16

This is a very uneven movie that wanders in and out of different styles and tones. It's about an immortal super-hero who is cratering in a haze of alcoholic self-destruction. He meets a PR professional who realizes he can turn this man's public image around. In the course of events it turns out that the PR man's wife is another immortal, and that she and the title character were paired millennia when they spawned. This ups things quite a bit, and changes the movie from a humorous action film and into a sci-fi drama. They writers seemed to have literally lost the plot at this point and the whole thing starts to unravel.

So, we have two partial movies that add up to a mess.

Not recommended.
