bad influence

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Tokyo, 2008.12.13

Joon and I met in Ginza to go to a Malaysian restaurant with Jon and Minami-san. We were a little early, so along the way we went to the new DeBeers store. You can spend a million dollars in that Ginza DeBeers location on a single diamond ring. Or put another way, 1億円, a hundred million yen.

But that was just a stalling behaviour. I think we both knew that we were heading for one of the camera stores. Sure enough, our inspection of inaffordable jewelry over, we were soon looking at an old Olympus 35 DC. I think Joon's going to wind up buying one despite my offers to loan mine to him.

The Malaysian restaurant was amazing. It's run by ethnically Chinese Malaysians, and we were offered a place at the table when the Chinese ambassador comes by for Chinese New Years. I don't see how we could turn them down. If we're in town, that is.
