novel progress

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-eight years and a million words

Tokyo, 2008.09.20

I've gone through the whole round with my editor on the novel. She summed it up saying, "A good story! Kept me guessing right to the end. But you have a lot of work to do..."

I do, indeed. It's going to take another six months of chipping away. But it's been 8 1/2 years already, what's the difference! 8^D

I find it really rewarding, working on a novel. It's everything that a day-to-day gig in a faceless corporate environment isn't. If anything, it shares a lot with learning how to be a father, actually. They're both exercises in puzzle-solving, and in both cases you're watching something come to life.

rand()m quote

Work is about a daily search for meaning as well as daily bread; for recognition as well as cash; for astonishment rather than torpor; in short for a sort of life, rather than a monday-to-friday sort of dying.
