movie review - Death at a Funeral

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Tokyo, 2007.12.26

This English comedy starts out well over the top and just keeps climbing. As with most British comedy, it features repression, blackmail and incontinence: all fine fare. But it seems to suffer from the sheer volume of pathetic jerks and their many dysfunctional relationships.

Watchable, but you can find better stuff from most of the actors this thing. And the one whose presence made me chose the thing in the first place (the great Alan Tudyk) is underutilized in being the fellow who explores the peaks of this movie's excess (as well as that of the set).

Not recommended.
