movie review - Transformers

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Tokyo, 2007.11.11

I saw this in the cinema with a couple of friends, for a laugh. It was as over-the-top as one would expect, and certainly better-made than the crap in the '80s (which I watched). Can't say that the story is going to stay with me the rest of my life, and I think there's something wrong with the lead actor, but it was fun to see how they adapted the actual Autobots and Decepticons. I did not care for the moving mouths, they should have left that '80s cost-cutting thing in as a .. thing.

One thing I found annoying was the incessant product placement. Enough already!

I'm going to become a dad soon. I guess I'll be doing this kind of thing with my son in the future. I hope these Transformers flicks hold up*.

Recommended.

Note, 2021.12.11: They don't, actually. By the time he sees the third one at around age six he asks so many confused questions that you scour the Internet looking for an edit that makes sense.

Try not to become a man of success but rather to become a man of value. He is considered successful in our day who gets more out of life than he puts in. But a man of value will give more than he receives.
