Mmmm, coffee

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-eight years and a million words

Toronto, 2007.09.14

We found an amazing coffee place on Yonge street just south of Carlton. Absolutely fantastic.

And then we walked down the street to the Eaton Centre and I was happily surprised to see that the eternal blue hoarding at the corner of Dundas and Yonge is finally gone (after what, ten years?). I also managed to get the battery for my laptop rebuilt. Woohoo!

On the march back to the hotel, we popped into a jewelry place and met an interesting fellow who helped us sort out what we want. We put in a deposit. Hopefully next week, Mari will finally have a ring!

In the evening we went to The Rebel House and had some of their excellent wings. The girls had their first exposure to decent poutine, as well.

Then we paid $14 to park the car and went for lobster. I'm not a huge fan of the stuff, but they made it well at this place out on King Street West. Which is, of course, a neighbourhood I barely recognized. The march of condos into the core and surrounds is really something -- it's starting to resemble Vancouver.

We went down to the harbourfront afterward, and attempted to see the sights in the midnight gloom.

rand()m quote

One day you will take a fork in the road, and you're going to have to make a decision about which direction you want to go. If you go one way, you can be somebody. You will have to make compromises and you will have to turn your back on your friends. But you will be a member of the club and you will get promoted and get good assignments. Or you can go the other way and you can do something [...] for yourself. If you decide to do something, you may not get promoted and get good assignments and you certainly will not be a favorite of your superiors. But you won't have to compromise yourself. To be somebody or to do something. In life there is often a roll call. That's when you have to make a decision. To be or to do.
