cycling in the rain

A pedestrian wandered in front of me on a bridge, today. The bridge is paved with dressed stone, and today it was wet with the thin rain that had been falling.
I went down when I hit the brakes.
By the time I'd got to my feet and was under way, the woman who'd caused the problem had vanished. She hadn't so much as looked back when I called out "???????????I"
That happened at around 09:00. By 19:00, I was sitting in my Japanese class and noticed that my wedding ring had gotten badly scratched. It even had a bit of grit embedded in it.
