movie review - Robots

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-eight years and a million words

Tokyo, 2006.11.18

This is an animated flick about a robot who lives in Robot City and wants to be an inventor to make .. new robots! The characters are all robots, the inanimate objects are all robots, everything's robots. There are plenty of gags about this like in the Flinstones, but it's the story that matters and helpfully here we have a cogent tale with actual conflict and compelling characters (there's a plucky girl robot and a poorly made loser pal robot) and amazingly some charm.

Recommended. I could see kids enjoying this.

rand()m quote

On the endless saga of Rob Ford, mayor of Toronto; "It shouldn't have had to come to this. I'm so tired of getting up every morning and wondering, 'What will it be today?' I'm so tired of giving the benefit of the doubt again and again, only to be let down again and again.... Somewhere a responsible adult has to appear, draw a bright moral line, tell the truth and say unequivocally what won't be tolerated. Somebody has to do the right thing."
