movie review - The Island

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Tokyo, 2006.10.17

This is a sci-fi flick that shifts gears half way through. Part Gattaca and part action film, it's beautifully set and shot and so on but the story feels stitched together and incomplete. The stars ooze charisma but it's not enough. I think they should have skipped all the over-the-top action in the second half and continued the more intelligent "first plot".

Not recommended.

rand()m quote

Selfish leaders increase risk by placing themselves first. It's a fundamental mistake to assume that what is good for us personally is mutually exclusive to what is good for everyone. That kind of zero-sum game is for cowards, and in the end, we all pay the price for this type of latent, toxic leadership.
