movie review - Broken Flowers

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-eight years and a million words

Tokyo, 2006.11.28

This is a movie about a retired founder of a software company* who's single once again after his girlfriend leaves. He receives a letter written on pink paper from an ex-girlfriend telling him that the son he didn't know he had is looking for him. This sets him on a quest to find his ex-girlfriends and see which sent the letter. A mixed batch of women follows, each with different responses. There's a final scene after the tour is done that ends this thing in a note-perfect way.

Recommended.

*This was not written by someone with familiarity with the software industry. There's no such thing as a "retired founder of a software company".

rand()m quote

It may be that when we no longer know what to do we have come to our real work, and that when we no longer know which way to go we have come to our real journey. The mind that is not baffled is not employed. The impeded stream is the one that sings.
