movie review - Mr. & Mrs. Smith

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Tokyo, 2006.09.17

This is a polished and high-speed spy thriller about a husband and wife who are both secretly - and unknown to each other - assassins. It features two of Hollywood's hottest stars (and people) and there's a plot. The characters are at best two-dimensional, their relationship seems equally contrived. They don't feel like assassins, it's all about the action. But even there the action doesn't seem to touch the impeccable and posturing actors; it is like watching someone play with their Barbie dolls. It felt like a bit of a lazy cash-grab but with a strong dose of ego.

Not recommended.
