Jon is gone

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-eight years and a million words

Toronto, 2005.05.08

Jon left this morning at 5:30 to return to Tokyo. It was a fine visit, and I'm glad that I wasn't tied up with work, as I would have been if one of the other job leads had worked out, last month.

It's interesting to catch up with a close friend after some years apart, because you re-learn your friendship, to an extent. In this case, it will likely be many moons before I see Jon again, as he has little intention of returning to Toronto (his visit having caused him to re-learn why he left four years ago).

rand()m quote

Immature poets imitate mature poets steal bad poets deface what they take and good poets make it into something better or at least something different. The good poet welds his theft into a whole of feeling which is unique utterly different than that from which it is torn the bad poet throws it into something which has no cohesion. A good poet will usually borrow from authors remote in time or alien in language or diverse in interest.
