movie review - Bourne Identity

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Toronto, 2005.01.01

This is a tale about a man who is fished out of the sea and revived, only to discover that he's got no memory and no explanation for the bullet holes in his back, the LED naming a numbered bank account that was implanted into his back, or his propensity for languages and violence. As the tale - based on the Robert Ludlum novel of the same name - unwinds, he finds that he has an uncanny talent for all kinds of spy stuff, and that someone is trying to kill him.

Leaving a trail of destruction, he tries to put together his identity and stay alive.

Filled with a tight energy and constantly driven pace, this film manages to stay on course surprisingly well, never veering into sentimentality - or even inplausability despite the outlandish premise. That our man displays some very human traits - he makes a fast friend of a complete stranger, and decided that he doesn't want to know why he is what he is once he starts to get the idea that he's a CIA killer.

Strongly recommended.

rand()m quote

I'm pleased and happy to repeat the news that we have, in fact, caught and killed a large predator that supposedly injured some bathers. But, as you see, it's a beautiful day, the beaches are open and people are having a wonderful time.
